Holiday Playa Del Carmen

…for all you Brits out there…

You say tomaaaarto, we say tomAto and neither (neether/neyther) of us put them on our sandwiches because it makes the bread go all soggy if they’re not in the center (centre).

You spell it flavour and we spell it flavor, but does it really matter?

I’ve always had plenty of banter over language with Brits coming to Playa Del Carmen.

You say it’s a Playa Del Carmen holiday, I say it’s a Playa Del Carmen vacation, and either way we’re both sitting (sat) on a pristine beach drinking cocktails.

If you hadn’t already guessed I’m a “yank” (as they say in British English).

Obnoxious, overweight, loud, overly patriotic?

Fire the stereotypes at me and most will find their target.

But now that I live in Playa Del Carmen, I don’t always get a chance to hang out with other yanks.

I sometimes spend time with you British English speakers who holiday in Playa Del Carmen.

Why I Made A Page About Holiday Playa Del Carmen?

Americans will never find this page because they say vacation instead of holiday.

They’ll think I’ve deserted my homeland.

Whereas you Brits probably searched for holiday Playa Del Carmen, and bingo…you’ve got to something written by this American wopper.

But hang fire before pressing back on your browser.

In 600 words I’m going to show you everything about your Playa Del Carmen holiday.

After all, over a million Brits and Aussies holiday in Mexico every year.

Why Go On Holiday In Playa Del Carmen?

Great beaches, laid back atmosphere, cute town, ancient culture to explore?

Oh, and it’s really cheap as well.

Playa Del Carmen is like one of the world’s worst kept secrets.

Until 20 years ago it was a tiny holiday village, but the tourist numbers keep rising.

However, it’s still not overcrowded like nearby Cancun.

Playa Del Carmen benefits from space.

If you want a secluded beach, then you only have to walk 30 minutes from the center of town.

And while the tourist numbers keep rising, Playa Del Carmen has always retained its relaxed atmosphere.

A holiday Playa Del Carmen is never stressful.

The Many Things To Do When On Holiday In Playa Del Carmen

So far so good.

But you didn’t fly half-way across the world just to sit on a beach did you?

I’m sure there are great beaches where you’re from.

Playa Del Carmen’s location makes it the ideal destination in Mexico.

Within an hour’s drive there are countless activities and attractions that show you both the authentic side of Mexico and the very fun tourist side of the country.

You can go visit the Mayan ruins at Tulum or Coba.

On a day trip you can also reach the famous Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza, one of the new seven wonders of the world.

Near Playa Del Carmen are two huge theme parks.

Xcaret is like Mexico’s version of Disneyland, featuring rides, crazy shows, massive buffets, a gigantic water park, and the chance to swim with dolphins and sting rays.

Xplor is a four in one theme park where you go zip-lining, driving off-road buggies through the jungle, swimming in cenotes, and sailing through caves on a raft.

Did I mention you can go snorkeling with sea turtles in Akumal for free?

That’s just 30 minutes from Playa Del Carmen.

Or that you can go swimming with whale sharks.

And of course you could check out Cancun, especially good if you’re on the pull.

Some More Things To Do On Holiday In Playa Del Carmen

Woah Rufus, enough of the day trips! You probably won’t do half the above, but it’s good to have choice right?

The main attraction when you’re on holiday in Playa Del Carmen is lounging on an amazing beach all day, then getting drunk in one of hundreds of different little bars in town.

You can also go shopping on 5th Ave, the defacto central street of Playa Del Carmen.

But if you’re bored with doing nothing on your Playa Del Carmen holiday, then these are just a few activities that can keep you busy:

  • Go deep sea fishing and then barbeque your catch for dinner
  • Skydive over the jungle and then land on the beach
  • Head into the jungle and then go swimming in cenotes
  • Snorkel around thousands of tropical fish. And then keep your snorkel on and see if there are any tasty women splashing in the waves.
  • Go scuba diving.
  • Rent an ATV (I think you call them quad bikes), charge through the jungle, and then crash it.
  • Take the Playa Del Carmen ferry and visit the tropical island of Cozumel.
  • Go swimming with dolphins – honestly, this isn’t just for kids.
  • Learn Spanish so you can impress the local women
  • Go in search of a topless beach – or just go topless on the beach
  • Meet some locals and spend 48 hours drinking mescal until you can’t remember your own name.

How Much Does A Typical Playa Del Carmen Holiday Cost?

We yanks are lucky.

We can fly to Mexico for cheap.

The main expense for your holiday in Playa Del Carmen is going to be your flight.

If you search around you can find them for $400 USD return (we say, round trip) )from the UK, but it’s more likely going to be around $700 USD.

If you’re coming from Australia, then flight prices will be obscene.

But don’t you have to pay a fortune to fly anywhere?

Once you’re in Playa Del Carmen you don’t need much money.

If you have $50 a day you can live well, eat well, drink well, and sleep well.

Just bring extra if you want to do the activities that involves marine creatures and theme parks.

So I hope you enjoy your Playa Del Carmen holiday.

I’m off on vacation

Lots of love,

Rufus
