Playa Del Carmen Timeshares

…sometimes it’s great to “share” things…

Timeshares.

Ugghhhh!!!!

The very word makes most people want to gag and run faster than they’ve done since the ugliest boy/girl at elementary school tried to kiss them.

You may have landed at Cancun Airport and been excessively bothered by timeshare sales people.

That sucks.

You’ve just started your vacation, and some idiot is already trying to sell you something.

They could at least wait until you’ve put your feet up and opened a beer!

Those people really bug me.

They hang around airports all over the world and have seemingly sold their souls to every devil that’s ever been mythologized.

However, Playa Del Carmen timeshares are not necessarily a bad idea.

You can get good value for your investment – I promise that I’m not just an alternative timeshare salesman coming out!

However, some timeshares can also be a complete waste of money.

So this article looks at timeshares and tries to get beyond the annoying sales patter of those airport dummies.

Who Would Benefit From A Playa Del Carmen Timeshare?

I could have wrote a list about the advantages of a Playa Del Carmen timeshare, but I really don’t want to be associated with a salesman.

A timeshare certainly isn’t for me.

I want to live here full-time!

However, they can be a good value for people visiting Playa Del Carmen annually and wanting access to excellent amenities and facilities.

Essentially, you pay your money and get a piece of transferable and sellable property that can be used year after year.

Some timeshares are very fixed.

Others are more flexible so you can choose a week over a particular period.

Most Playa Del Carmen timeshares are in exclusive resort neighborhoods.

So you know that every year you’re going to be near the beach in a great place.

What Are The Disadvantages Of A Playa Del Carmen Timeshare?

Ask a salesman about disadvantages, and they’ll probably look blankly before suggesting something like “You can only stay in it for two weeks a year.”

Here are the main disadvantages:

  • You have to share the property.
  • You have to pay maintenance fees
  • It’s not always easy to change or exchange your timeshare weeks with others

It goes without saying that you share the property (thus the name).

This means that you can’t decorate it, and the property never really belongs to you.

Another disadvantage is the maintenance fees. (These vary from property to property.)

You buy a timeshare, and that should be it right?

Well no.

You’ll still need to pay maintenance fees, and these never go down – in fact, usually they go up.

Another disadvantage is exchanging your timeshare weeks.

While the sales people make out that it’s “really easy,” you could end up in your third choice property because the most sought after resorts simply aren’t available on exchange.

Avoiding The Classic Playa Del Carmen Timeshare Scam

One inherent disadvantage of timeshares in Playa Del Carmen (or anywhere else for that matter), is the pushy sales people.

There is currently a scam going around the Riviera Maya where Playa Del Carmen timeshare people offer a free vacation or free hotel stay as long as you turn up and listen to their sales presentation.

But don’t think that a free vacation means some plush all-inclusive resort.

It normally means some crappy $25-a-night hotel that’s miles away from anywhere.

You shouldn’t go along with these type of sales people unless you have already decided that you definitely want a timeshare.

The classic scam also makes it seem like everything is free.

TNSTAAFL” is what my econ professor always said. (There’s No Such Thing As A Free Lunch.)

Needless to say, you may encounter loads of hidden ‘extras’ that you have to pay for.

In the end you have to pay for a shit vacation and may be forced to listen to some extremely pushy people who won’t take ‘NO’ for an answer.

Buying A Playa Del Carmen Timeshare From A Developer

The biggest disadvantage of the timeshare is price.

Every week that you pay for is essentially over-priced.

In general it doesn’t make sense to buy a Playa Del Carmen timeshare from a developer.

They will have pushed the price up and those pesky sales people need to get paid a hefty commission.

Guess who pays that commission? – You!

Once the developer has sold all the annual time allottments, the price of the timeshare will often go down.

The only exception, and when you can get a good value timeshare from a developer, is when a property has just gone on the market.

At this time there won’t be resales for a few years, and the price of the timeshare might even increase.

If you are buying a Playa Del Carmen timeshare from a developer, then it’s imperative that you use the services of a reputable local attorney.

Buying A Resale Playa Del Carmen Timeshare

There is a huge market for reselling timeshares, and it’s growing all the time.

Just like owning a house, a timeshare can be freely bought and sold.

So after a few years, many people decide to try and get some of their investment back.

The resale price of a timeshare is almost always less than the original price from the developer.

There is also much more scope for negotiation.

There are websites that list timeshares that are up for resale.

You can get yourself a bargain and not have to hear the tired sales pitch.

Remember that the price will depend on a few things.

Like all property sales, it depends on location and the quality of what’s on offer.

But time is also an important factor.

If you to purchase a week in low season, then you’ll get it much cheaper than a week in December.

The highest price you’re going to pay for a week in a timeshare here is in December and January – specifically the week of December 25th to January 1st.

Where To Find A Good Value Playa Del Carmen Timeshare

SellMyTimeshareNow is a good website that has over 400 Playa Del Carmen timeshares currently listed.

There are other sites that you can check out like VacationTimeshareRentals and TimeshareAdvisor.

It’s good to spread your search as wide as you can.

There are many bargains to be had, particularly from those who are desperate to cut their losses and sell.

There are timeshares on these sites that range from $3000 to $50,000.

Anything Else About Playa Del Carmen Timeshares?

Timeshares are not for me.

But for some people it could be your ticket to having an amazing vacation in Playa Del Carmen for very little money.

Just make sure you do plenty of research and consider lots of options before parting with your hard-earned money.

If you’re not sure, and a salesperson is being pushy, then say no.

Put your feet up, grab a beer, and tell them to piss off!

If it sounds too good to be true, guess what? – it probably is!

If you go for it, and decide you just can’t live without one, then I look forward to seeing you on the beach nearby soon!

Lots of love,

Rufus
