Skydiving Playa Del Carmen

…create a memory that you will never forget…

3,2,1,aaaaahhhhhhhh!

That’s all I remember about going skydiving in Playa del Carmen.

Of course, I don’t admit this to everyone.

When I’m trying to impress a girl I tell them that I was a picture of serenity and bravery when I stepped out of the plane.

This is despite the fact that my skydiving video shows how petrified I was.

The video also enables me to relive the dive and help me tell you what it’s going to be like for you.

NOTE: I did not include the video on this page; it was just too embarrassing!

Dear Skydive Playa,

Some friends and I are going to be in Playa Del Carmen on (insert date).

We plan on going skydiving IN PLAYA DEL CARMEN at some point during our trip.

We are a group of (insert number of people). Do we need to make reservations? When do we need to let you know we are going? (insert any questions here)?

It’s best to contact me via phone/email/Skype (choose one) at the following times (insert time).

Thank you very much, and I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Rufus the Skyfaller (replace my name with yours!!!)

Why Skydiving?

There are two different times when skydiving is amazing.

  1. When you’re doing it.
  2. And then afterwards when you’re telling your jealous friends about it.

You get to ride in a private plane, slowly going into the atmosphere until everything below is tiny little dots.

3,2,1…no I don’t want to remember how embarrassing that was.

I was really screaming when we exited the plane at 10,000 feet.

For 40 seconds we were free-falling towards the ground, and my cheeks were flapping like a kite from the force of the wind.

We?

Yes, when you skydive you do it in tandem with a trained jumpmaster.

You don’t have to do anything apart from scream and fall.

The jumpmaster does the important stuff, like pulling the cord for the parachute.

Why Skydiving In Playa Del Carmen?

Freefall is freefall.

But the real beauty of skydiving in Playa del Carmen is the landscape that you’re falling above.

Beneath you is four distinct landscapes:

  • The deep blue ocean
  • Pristine beach
  • Lush greenery of the jungle
  • The city from above

During the freefall the view passes by in a blur.

But once the parachute opens you sail slowly down to earth.

It takes a full 8 minutes to reach the ground.

More than enough time to admire everything about this treasured part of the whole peninsula.

This really is one of the most beautiful sights you will ever see.

My heart was racing with adrenalin and there was still a serenity to the landscape below.

Then the icing on the cherry is a soft landing on the beach.

Okay, Sign Me Up. Who Offers Skydiving In Playa Del Carmen?

There is only one reputable company offering skydiving in Playa del Carmen at this time.

That’s Skydive Playa (see contact info above), and all their staff are trained and licensed by the United States Parachute Association.

Think about this: with a culture that has a reputation for rampant and unchecked carelessness (and believe me the reputation is true) would you trust the Mexican Parachute Association?

Neither would I.

Hopefully it doesn’t even exist!!!

Skydive Playa also has jump sites in Cancun and Cozumel.

The staff are nationally recognized for doing some crazy skydiving demonstrations.

I’ve seen pictures of them diving and making shapes with a bunch of flags.

The only restriction they have is that you must weigh less than 220 pounds.

I Want To Remember More Than Aaahhhh…

Skydive Playa have cameramen that jump together with the divers.

They use helmet cameras to record everything that happens.

Needless to say, this makes for some kick ass photos.

And a video that proves that it really was the greatest thrill on the planet.

There’s nothing particular that you will need to bring.

However, I would recommend a clean set of underwear just in case.

Cost for the video of your jump? $159 USD – Cash ONLY (at the time of this writing).

How Much Does Skydiving In Playa Del Carmen Cost?

A tandem skydive costs $269 USD. (As always, this is out of my control and subject to change.)

A small price for a memory you’re never going to forget.

And remember, tandem doesn’t mean you’re jumping out of a plane with your buddy.

Your tandem partner is the trained jumpmaster.

Photos and video are an extra $159 USD (as mentioned above), but are seriously recommended if you’re like me and need reminding of what happened.

They also show you off as a super cool dude when they become your Facebook profile pic.

So, pluck up the courage, get ready for the countdown, and go skydiving in Playa del Carmen.

I hope to see you dropping out of the clouds soon!

Lots of love,

Rufus

Thanks for the comment. You’re going to have a great time skydiving in Playa Del Carmen – with or without your camera.

I just talked to Skydive Playa. Despite the fact that the woman who answered the phone continually referred to me as “mister,” she was quite helpful. The conversation went something like this:

“Blah blah blah,” the operator answered in Spanish.

“Do you have someone there who speaks English?” I inquired.

“Yes, mister. I speak English” A woman responded with a kind and helpful voice.

“My name is Rufus. I run the website PlayaDelCarmen.org. I just had a visitor who asked me whether or not he could bring his own camera/video camera and make his own video when he goes skydiving. Can he do this?” I inquired patiently.

“No mister, that would not be possible” she responded.

I’m thinking to myself, why the hell does this woman keep calling me MISTER? I wish she would STOP THIS SH*T. If she keeps it up, I’m going to give her a filthy name she’ll really remember! If she wants to call me “master,” I’ll make her my slave, but “mister?” Uggghhh….

“You can bring your camera with and film, but you have to give it to the pilot before you jump and he will give it back to you after you get to the ground.”

“Okay,” I said. “I will let my visitor know.”

      “Sorry about that, mister”

“Thank you.” I said, wanting to reach through the phone and grab her by the tongue.

So, if you in order to answer your question, no you cannot take your own photos/videos of the full skydiving experience. However, you can take photos/video up until the point of the jump. At least according to this filthy woman that continuously called me “mister.”

And, please Ramon, if you do go skydiving in Playa Del Carmen, teach this damn woman a lesson about telephone etiquette!

See you falling from the sky soon….

      Take care,

      Rufus
